Job Description: You will provide residents with the highest standard of basic care and support, in accordance with the Home’s philosophy of care and the individual care plan. While acting in accordance with the policies and procedures of the home.
Responsibilities:
- To build strong and meaningful relationships with the residents and assist them with their Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) to help them maintain and improve, where possible, their independence, individuality and mobility
- Assistance with ADLs includes, but is not limited to: Bathing, dressing, grooming, eating, participating in meaningful and purposeful daily activities, empowering resident choice, desire and preference where possible
- Serve as the Key Worker for a small number of residents within the home
- Establishing a very detailed and focused relationship with the residents and their family members/friends/other key visitors/other staff members so as to serve as a point of contact and reference for all parties involved.
- Key workers should be able to coach other staff members on the specific preferences and routines that a resident may have and should also contribute to the resident’s regularly scheduled care plan reviews
- To actively participate in and champion the daily dining experiences
- To provide the residents with meals served from the kitchen deparment, adhering strenuously to Food Hygiene regulation.
- To offer residents choices and seek alternative meal items when necessary with the help of the kitchen staff
- To help the residents choose from the menu and assist them with eating, report comments on food and requests for particular dishes to the Chef Manager
- Help host our residents and their visitors
- To provide beverages for the residents and their visitors
- To answer the telephone and either forward calls or take messages in a capable and professional manner
- To attend training and educational sessions as required
- This will ensure your skill set is up to date and that your confidence remains high while delivering care to the residents
The Role:
- Capacity to communicate both verbally and in writing
- Positive attitude, passion and willingness to develop skills within Care Assistant role
- NVQ in Social Care, preferred but not essential
- Flexibility to work shift patterns
- Good interpersonal skills
- Reliable, Accountable and Punctual
- To put the resident needs first and to assist them with the greatest respect and compassion possible
- To immediately report any unusual findings to your supervisor
- To assist and follow instruction from the duty manager
- Maintain thorough documentation
- Previous experience in working with the frail elderly and those living with dementia is preferred but not essential
